Laura asks…Do you think core emotional triggers are learned or are the product of evolution with subsequent variations?I'm reading Paul Ekman's book, "Emotions Revealed". In it he describes how emotions, through a term he calls "auto appraisal", take over our body when a threat to our well being is triggered. In the example he is fond of, he describes a near-miss car accident and how your body reacts automatically to step on the break and swerve away.
